The First International Lantern Contest in Hung Yen in 2025, with the theme "Oriental Light", not only honors traditional art but also serves as a cultural bridge, enhancing exchanges between countries. The event ignites a love for life, spreading a message of hope, strength, and light for the future. The contest aims to become an international gathering place for creative talents, promoting tourism and economic development for the locality, while simultaneously marking Vietnam's presence on the global cultural and artistic event map.
Time: submission of entries from October 25, 2024, to November 10, 2024
Location: Vinhomes Ocean Park 2&3 - Van Giang, Hung Yen
Awards Ceremony and Opening of the Festival: January 18, 2025
Lantern Exhibition Festival: from January 18, 2025, to the end of March 16, 2025
Prizes
Winning teams will receive certificates, prizes (including cash and physical goods), and the opportunity to participate in other cultural events as part of the festival.
01 First Prize: value 50,000 USD
01 Second Prize: value 30,000 USD
01 Third Prize: value 20,000 USD
03 Encouragement Awards: value 10,000 USD per prize
Individuals or organizations that win an award must provide complete documentation proving their valid legal status as requested by the Organizing Committee and are responsible for paying any taxes and fees related to income from the prize in accordance with Vietnamese law. Members of the author group are individually responsible for agreeing on the representative to receive the prize and for distributing the award (if applicable).
In addition to the above prizes, each team participating in the final round will receive financial support from the Organizing Committee to produce their work, with a full support amount of USD 12,000 for Vietnamese teams and USD 15,000 for international teams.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to participate in the contest, participants must meet the following conditions:
- An individual or group of individuals aged 18 years or older, with full civil act capacity and/or an organization in Vietnam or abroad legally established in accordance with the provisions of law.
- Be the owner/co-owner of the legal rights and interests (including copyright) to the work submitted for the contest.
The following individuals are not eligible to participate in the contest:
- Members of the Organizing Committee and the Judging Panel.
- Parents, spouses, and biological or adopted children of members of the Organizing Committee and the Judging Panel.
- Companies in which members of the Organizing Committee or the Judging Panel have invested.
How to participate
1. Preliminary round
1.1. Submission Deadline for Contest Entries
Deadline: November 10, 2024, is calculated based on the actual time the Organizing Committee receives the entries.
Submission methods: Contest teams can choose one of the following two methods:
- Submit online through the contest's official portal
- Submit via the Organizing Committee's email: contest@oceanlanternfestival.com
Entries submitted after November 10, 2024, will not be eligible for the contest.
Each author/group of authors may submit up to five different works. In the event that an author/group of authors submit more than five entries, the author/group must select five entries and notify the Organizing Committee no later than November 11, 2024. 1.2. The documents to be attached with the contest entries are:
- Design Sketch
- Design Concept Essay
- Material List with Sustainability Analysis
- Construction Plan
- Profile
1.3 The detailed requirements for the documents to be attached with the contest entries are as follows:
a) General requirements:
- File Format: must be submitted in PDF, JPEG (for sketches), and Excel format (for the list of materials used). The total file size must not exceed 50 MB.
- File Naming: File name structure: [Team Name]_[Design Title].[Format]
Example: TeamA_Orientallightfestival.pdf
File names must not contain special characters (/,:, *, ?, ", <, >, |).
Use underscores (_) to separate the parts of the file name.
- Language: All submitted documents must be written in English or Vietnamese.
- The designs must be clear and easy to read, including the necessary technical details for the jury to assess the perfection and feasibility of the work.
b) Detailed requirements:
* Design Sketch
- Provide at least three detailed sketches of the lantern design from different angles (front, back, and side view, including complete dimensions and colors).
- Use hand drawing techniques or professional design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp).
- High resolution, at least 300 dpi.
- Drawing size: A3 (297 x 420 mm).
- Clearly note the technical details and colors used.
* Design Concept Essay
- List all materials to be used in the lantern construction process, including material name, origin, technical specifications, and reasons for selection with a brief analysis of the sustainability of the materials
- Explain the cultural significance, creativity, and message conveyed by the work.
- Length: 500-700 words.
- Clear structure with an introduction, body, and conclusion.
* Material List with Sustainability Analysis
- List all materials to be used in the lantern construction process, including material name, origin, technical specifications, and reasons for selection with a brief analysis of the sustainability of the materials
- Prioritize eco-friendly, recyclable materials, use energy-saving resources, as well as to measures that minimize environmental impact
- Attach images or samples of the materials.
* Construction Plan
- Detail the necessary steps to complete the work, from the sketch phase to production, including the techniques, technologies used, and the implementation schedule.
- Length: 2-3 pages.
- Use a flowchart or Gantt chart to illustrate the timeline and tasks.
* Profile
- A copy of the author(s)' identification documents or the business registration certificate.
- Information about the participants (including experience and any awards in the field, if applicable).
- Works created by the participants.
c) Other requirements:
- Number of submissions: Each team may submit up to five different works. In the event that an author/group of authors submits more than five entries, the author/group must select five entries and notify the Organizing Committee no later than November 11, 2024. If no clear notification regarding the selection of entries is provided by the deadline, the Organizing Committee will only acknowledge the first five valid entries and discard the remaining submissions.
- Contact Information: Include the team name, members, email address, and contact phone number at the beginning of the submitted document.
- Attach Additional Images (if any):

- Short Video (optional) Introducing the Concept and Design Process.
- The submitted entries must ensure sustainability for a minimum of 3 months, aesthetic value, and cultural significance while not in violation of the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and avoiding elements that contradict social morals and ethics, as well as political or violent themes.
- Submissions will be considered invalid if submitted late, contain technical errors, and/or infringe upon the intellectual property rights of third parties. Invalid submissions will be disqualified without prior notice from the Organizing Committee.
- The Organizing Committee reserves the right to immediately revoke the eligibility of a contestant if there are any violations of the regulations regarding the submitted works.
2. Final round
- The best-performing teams will come to Vietnam to directly create their contest entries. The deadline for delivering works/materials for constructing the entries is no later than January 5, 2025, at Vinhomes Ocean Park 2&3 in Hung Yen Province, Vietnam. Teams must complete their works no later than January 15, 2025.
- The contest entries will be exhibited at the 2025 International Lantern Festival held at Vinhomes Ocean Park 2&3 in Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province.
Ocean International Lantern Contest 2025 is organized by Vinhomes JSC. and Sunny Vietnam JSC.
The contest products are copyrighted by the contestants who created the products. Contestants agree to allow the Organizing Committee to use all contest works for advertising and communication purposes on websites owned or controlled by the Organizing Committee, image libraries, and/or social media platforms as well as to conduct paid exhibitions and displays during the contest period as well as after the contest ends without having to pay copyright fees.
